Archie Bullard, Jasser Iskander and Enzo Rujugiro all turned in impressive race performances to make up 54 positions collectively from their qualifying spots and enhance their reputations as three of the most determined drivers in the series.
Nineteen-year-old Archie Bullard was chief among those moving forwards in Sunday afternoon’s final race; the Surrey racer starting 27th and incredibly finishing 13th, despite only three of the eight laps being held under green flag ‘racing’ conditions.
That was a deserved reward for the teenager, who finished third in the Rookie category as a result, and who was desperately unlucky to retire after breaking part of his gearbox loom by driving over a kerb. He was 21st – again from 27th on the grid – in Race One.
South African Enzo Rujugiro, who himself had scored his maiden top-10 finish at the previous round at Donington Park, made a similarly determined charge in Race Three; the 16-year-old rising from 29th to 15th. He was 22nd and 25th in the other two races.
Jasser Iskander was the best-placed qualifier of the Fox trio; the Saudi Arabian karting champion starting 24th and converting it into 19th spot overall. But a kerb strike left him with a damaged tub, restricting his performance.
He was 24th in Race Two and brilliant rose through the order to 15th in the finale, only to be excluded from the results for overtaking under yellow-flag conditions.
The next event takes place at Snetterton, Norfolk, in support of the British GT Championship, on August 15-16.
Paul McNeilly, Team Principal, said: “Although the results didn’t match what we achieved at Donington, in many ways the race results were actually more impressive. Archie, Jasser and Enzo are all operating at a totally different level to when we started the season in April – it’s night and day the improvement from all three. Confidence got the better of all three of them in qualifying and a couple of small mistakes each left them further down the grid than we’d have expected, but some of the passing moves they made in the races were sensational, and to make up more than 10 places each in some case just shows they all have the racers’ instinct that can’t be taught. The final stages of the season are going to be really interesting.”
