Ginetta GT Champion Mckenzie Douglass returns to series with Fox Motorsport

Reigning Ginetta GT Championship title-holder Mckenzie Douglass will return to the series with Fox Motorsport at Silverstone this weekend.

"

Seventeen-year-old Mckenzie stormed to the series’ overall title in 2024 with 14 Pro class wins and 18 podium finishes with the team from Maldon, Essex. That figure also means he has won more races than any other driver for the team.

The Welshman from Cowbridge, Vale of Glamorgan, is now raring to add more silverware to his trophy shelf when he races on the Formula 1 layout on Saturday and Sunday.

Mckenzie joined Fox Motorsport part-way through the 2023 season in the Ginetta Junior Championship and scored a podium finish on his first weekend with the team at Donington Park.

He then debuted in Ginetta GTs later the same year and finished second; a pre-cursor to his dominant run to the title in 2024.

Mckenzie will have his first taste of the new-for-2025 Ginetta G56 GTP8 at Silverstone on Thursday ahead of a double-header race weekend on which Fox are chasing a 100th race win.

Mckenzie Douglass said: “I am so excited to be back racing after what’s seemed like a very long Winter. The 2024 season was fantastic as we won the championship with Fox Motorsport, were competitive everywhere and didn’t have to use any spare body panels all year. Having the familiarity of such a strong team around me will be a big plus point. On the other hand, I haven’t driven the new Ginetta GTP8 and I’ve never done an endurance race or a pitstop, so I’ll need a bit of time to get familiar with the new things brought into the series this year. This looks like the most competitive Ginetta GT grid for years so it’s going to be tough to run at the front, but that’s the aim and we’ll give it our all.”

Paul McNeilly, Team Principal, said: It’s fantastic to have Mckenzie back in a Fox Motorsport car. When you win a championship in the dominant way we did last year, you just want to keep going. He’s a fantastic driver and although there’s an upgraded car and some tweaks to the race format, we think he’ll get into the swing of things fairly quickly. We didn’t manage to get things over the line in time for the first races at Donington, but we’re all set now and the dropped-score rule means that as long as we run reliably through the year, missing a round might not put too big a dent in our hopes of winning the championship.”
