Fifteen-year-old Freddie, who won the coveted IAME X30 Junior European Championship in 2023, will race for the team from Maldon, Essex in the ‘evo’ version of the British-built Ginetta G40 Junior in the series.
First driving a kart aged just three, the Sevenoaks driver began karting competing seriously following the global pandemic in 2020-21 and some scored notable successes as he climbed the ladder in the UK and on the continent.
Following his 2023 X30 European crown, he stepped up to senior karting in 2024 and won the Ice Breaker Cup at PF International on his debut weekend.
That led on to the runner-up spot in the British X30 Senior Championship and on-track wins in the hotly-contested IAME Warrior Finals at Zuera, Spain.
He joins the series that gave McLaren Formula 1 ace Lando Norris his car-racing debut with a Fox Motorsport team that secured top-three positions in the Drivers’ points in 2021 and ’22 and was most recently a race-winner in the 2024 Winter Series.
Freddie’s testing programme will resume in the coming weeks as he aims to be ready for the start of the season, in which he will contest both the overall championship and the Rookie Cup.
The Ginetta Junior Championship comprises eight events, most of which support the British GT Championship. It begins at Donington Park on April 5-6 and concludes at the same venue on October 4-5.
Freddie Lloyd said: “I’m so excited to step up to Ginetta Juniors with Fox Motorsport and to start the next chapter of my racing career. I’ve only had one day in the Ginetta so far at Brands Hatch, but I turned up not knowing how to drive and ended the day in pretty good shape thanks to the coaching from Jamie [Stanley]. I’ll be practicing hard on the sim and if we can do a good job in testing then I’m sure we can arrive at the first round of the season in good shape and ready to score some strong results.”
Paul McNeilly, Team Principal, said: “Freddie’s a huge talent, as his successes in the UK and Europe in X30 karting over the past two seasons have proved. We first came into contact with Freddie several years ago when he was racing at many of the same events as Liam [McNeilly, Ginetta Junior runner-up in 2021] and have kept a close eye on his progress ever since. The speed with which he adapted to the demands of the Ginetta Junior car on his first test at Brands Hatch last December was astonishing so it’s now on us to give him the best pre-season we possibly can so he’s ready for Donington in April.”
