A triple for Henry Cameron in the Ginetta Junior Freshman Trophy plus another Ginetta GT rostrum for Mckenzie Douglass, and some notable performances elsewhere, meant the Fox team, from nearby Maldon, Essex, had a happy trip home.
Ginetta Junior Championship
Henry Cameron, 15, had already twice been a winner in the Freshman Trophy – a category for drivers with no significant karting or racing background ahead of their rookie season – in his debut campaign.
He added second place in the class in Saturday’s opening race as he battled back from a slow start and then finished third and second on Sunday.
Henry, from Wilmslow, Cheshire, is the third best-placed Freshman Trophy driver in the overall points table with four events remanining.
Ginetta GT Championship
Mckenzie Douglass scored his fourth Pro class podium in three rounds as the Welsh teenager, from Cowbridge, Vale of Glamorgan, battled several issues during the weekend.
Having qualified fifth in class, he fought back after an overheating issue on the grid led to him dropping several places at the start of Saturday’s opening race. Fourth place on the road unfortunately became sixth due to a time penalty for exceeding track limits.
Sunday’s 40-minute pitstop race showed similar levels of promise, but with the reigning series champion suffering excessive rear tyre wear, the 18-year-old found his traction severely limited. Despite this he maintained a consistent pace to finish third in Pro.
There were successes for his team-mates in the Am class too, both of whom continue their strong rookie-season progress in the category.
Ascot-based Welshman James Rolling qualified eighth in Am in a best-ever 17th place overall and added sixth and fifth-place finishes in the two races as his methodical approach allowed him to gain places towards the end on both days.
Team-mate Oliver Fordham, racing at his local circuit, was seventh in class in both races; Sunday’s result coming in a career-best 14th overall.
The Halstead, Essex, racer was on course for fourth in Am in Saturday’s sprint race after showing impressive pace throughout, but an unfortunate spin on the penultimate lap cost him three spots.
GTs continues at Brands Hatch on August 23-24 while the Juniors will be in action before then with an overseas trip to Zandvoort, home of the Dutch Formula 1 Grand Prix, on July 26-27.
Paul McNeilly, Team Principal, said: “It was a challenging weekend for the whole team in what were the hottest temperatures the drivers have faced all year. Not only does that impact the tyre life, but also the heat inside the closed-cockpit Ginettas, which can really build. Our drivers all handled those extra pressures well, finshed all their races and barely scratched their cars. Our Ginetta GT rookies, James and Oly, in particular, can be very pleased with their progress since the start of the season and both are getting much closer to their first podium finishes.”
